First week of Lithium LiFePO4 Results, Watts per Mile

The results are in.
After driving the Saturn a week it does seem like a new car.

Rear Springs & Struts New & old

Rear Springs & Struts New & old

Quicker, no sulfur smell or acid, lighter, double the distance and easier to steer(front end lighter), from the first half mile drive to the one Saturday June 11 of 61 miles.

The vehicle is much lighter. We removed the [[http://saturn.lynnautorepair.com/node/207|special Rear Coil springs]] and replaced them with the original rear springs. The CALIB Lithiums weigh in at 4.4 kg or 9.7 pounds each which 48 of them makes 465.6 pounds. The Lead Acids weighed 1152 pounds, so 1152 minus 466 equals a 686 pound lighter vehicle.
[[http://saturn.lynnautorepair.com/node/85|Measuring ride heights]] showed these levels now.

The LiFePo4s carried the Saturn 61 miles Saturday June 11 from my home to Jackson Dragstrip. On part of the drive I took I-40 from exit 80 to Exit 85. On this 5 mile leg a BMW passed me so I pulled into the fast lane, drafted him at 83 MPH until my exit. On the trip home a storm came through and poured down rain. On the last couple of miles I floored the Saturn a couple of times to observe the voltmeter and noticed very little difference from the first 2 miles. The voltmeter shows about 160 volts under no C (current) and about 140 volts at 500 amps on the first 2 miles and 130 volts at 500 amp current on the 59th mile. Acceleration is still good on the 60th mile, I would say better than the original 4 cylinder engine. The following chart is of this week’s miles driven, input Kilowatts used and efficiency measured in watts per mile (this is in kw measured by how much the charger used to refill the vehicle battery pack) and cost per mile and MPG (a number based on $3.50 per gallon of gas).
