I Borrowed The Dirt Track Scales from Richard Holmes, one of my mechanics. These are the same scales I weighed the Saturn before the conversion.
See Measure Ride Height and Vehicle Weight . I had planned and even told people The Similarly Stimulated Saturn probably weights about 3000 pounds. I was wrong. The scales showed 3483 lbs (1580 Kilograms)!
That is an increase of 1213 pounds (550 Kilograms) from 2270 (1030 Kilograms) (gasoline almost empty). Where did it come from?
The batteries were Exide GC8 64 or 65 pounds each times 18 equals 1170 pounds (531 Kilograms). Heaviest items added the motor, controller, heater, vacuum pump and heavy duty metal and plywood battery boxes and frames. I did have a portable heater in the passenger floorboard which weights 20 lbs. Of course, I removed items like engine, exhaust, fuel tank and supply, radiator, condenser and air conditioning except for evaporator.
In pounds…….
Left front was 697 is now 927
Right front was 705 is now 900
Left rear was 426 is now 816
Right rear was 441 is now 840
BTW the ride height is 1.00 inch lower in front than before and .50 higher in back than before. Remember I did replace the rear springs with ones custom made at http://www.coilsprings.com/ .
